About 25 typhoons approach Japan every year, and about 3 of them make landfall. The typhoon season is from July to October, with the peak season being from August to September. Typhoons bring strong winds and heavy rain, greatly impacting transportation.
The strength of a typhoon is classified by “wind speed.” A typhoon with a wind speed of 25 m/s or more is called “strong,” a wind speed of 33 m/s or more is called “very strong,” and a typhoon of 44 m/s or more is called “violent.”

When a typhoon is approaching, it is safe to stay at a hotel or accommodation instead of forcing yourself to go out. In Japan, “storm warnings” and “special warnings” are sometimes issued during typhoons. In that case, never go out.
