Family Amusement Parks in Shikoku: Reoma World or Asutamuland?

Shikoku has one full-scale theme-park choice and a very different, lower-cost family outing. Choose New Reoma World in Kagawa for rides and shows; choose Asutamuland Tokushima for science exhibits, a planetarium and outdoor play. They are in different prefectures, so this is a comparison for planning separate outings—not a suggested two-park day trip.

Which one fits your family?

  • For rides and an all-day theme-park atmosphere: New Reoma World, Marugame, Kagawa.
  • For younger children, science and a flexible budget: Asutamuland Tokushima, Itano, Tokushima. Entry and parking are free; indoor facilities cost extra.

New Reoma World, Kagawa

Reoma combines rides, performances and seasonal flower or illumination areas. It also has a separate summer-only pool area. Do not assume every area or attraction is running on your date: check the official calendar and attraction suspension notices before traveling.

Ticket choice matters: the admission ticket gets you into the park and Oriental Trip area; rides require separate ride tickets or a free pass. Pool access has its own ticket rules in summer. Compare the current options on the official price page rather than buying admission alone if rides are your main goal. Check height and other ride restrictions with your children in mind.

Getting there: the park lists a free shuttle serving JR Sakaide, JR Utazu and Kotoden Okada stations, but timetables can change and buses can fill. Confirm the latest departure and return times on its access page. The park is at 40-1 Kurikuma Nishi, Ayautacho, Marugame.

Asutamuland Tokushima

This is an educational family park rather than a conventional roller-coaster theme park. Its children’s science museum and planetarium make it useful when the weather is uncertain; outside spaces give children room to play when the weather is good. Park entry and parking are free, while the science museum, planetarium and some activities are paid. The official visitor guide publishes the current facility prices and closure calendar.

The usual opening time is 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; hours extend on some holiday and summer dates. Wednesdays are generally closed, with exceptions and holiday adjustments. Check the calendar rather than relying on the usual pattern. The official guide currently says the Yoshinogawa boat ride is suspended, so do not plan a visit around it.

Getting there: Asutamuland is in Itano, not central Tokushima City. The official access page lists a Tokushima Bus service via JR Itano Station from Tokushima Station’s bus terminal; check the latest timetable and final return bus before departure.

Before you go

  1. Pick the park that matches the children’s ages and interests—not just the label “theme park.”
  2. Check that day’s operating calendar, ride suspensions and weather policy on the official site.
  3. Compare admission-only and ride-inclusive tickets at Reoma; budget separately for paid facilities at Asutamuland.
  4. If using public transport, confirm the last bus or shuttle back. These are not city-center attractions.

Not an amusement park: Dogo Onsen in Ehime is a historic hot-spring district, so it has been removed from this park guide. For another family-friendly indoor idea on the island, see our Shikoku museums guide.
