Checked October 30, 2026: The three Roppongi museums make a rewarding art-focused outing, but a “three museums in one day” plan only works when all three have exhibitions open. The Mori Art Museum says it is closed for an exhibition change through October 30, with its next exhibition scheduled to begin October 31. Check each museum’s calendar before setting out; a closed gallery cannot be rescued by an attractive walking route.
Three institutions, three different reasons to visit
Mori Art Museum is in Roppongi Hills Mori Tower and concentrates on contemporary art. Its exhibition program changes, and the museum may close between shows. Do not confuse museum admission with admission to the separate Tokyo City View observation deck; check current ticket options on the Mori Art Museum site.
The National Art Center, Tokyo is near Nogizaka Station. It does not have a permanent art collection; its exhibition halls host changing shows. Entry to the building is free, but each exhibition can require its own ticket. The usual closing day is Tuesday, with holiday exceptions, and individual exhibition hours can differ. Check the official hours and admission page and the exhibition calendar.
Suntory Museum of Art is in Tokyo Midtown and presents art and craft through changing exhibitions. It usually closes on Tuesdays and during exhibition changeovers. The official FAQ lists its current general hours and exceptions; verify the particular exhibition and ticket before you visit.
Plan the route around exhibitions, not a fixed timetable
- Choose one exhibition you most want to see and confirm its open date, last-admission time, ticket price and photography rules.
- Check the other two museums on the same date. If one is between exhibitions, make the day a two-museum visit rather than forcing a third stop.
- Allow time for security, lockers, breaks and the walk between Roppongi Hills, the National Art Center and Tokyo Midtown. The order can change depending on timed tickets and evening openings.
For a simple starting point, use the National Art Center’s Nogizaka access, then check whether Suntory Museum of Art or Mori Art Museum has the later exhibition you want. The National Art Center access page and Suntory access page provide station exits. Avoid relying on an unverified “10-minute walk between all three” claim: the actual walk and time inside each building depend on your route and mobility.
What if one museum is closed?
Use the closure as an opportunity to spend longer with the exhibitions that are open, or save the third for another visit. Do not assume a museum shop, cafe or observation deck follows the same schedule as the galleries. If weather changes your plans, our Tokyo rainy-day indoor guide offers other museum-oriented options outside Roppongi.
Before you go
Confirm the Mori Art Museum exhibition status, the National Art Center exhibition calendar, and the Suntory Museum of Art calendar on the day of travel. Schedules, prices and special openings can change.
