札幌・狸小路商店街の歴史
狸小路商店街は、札幌市中央区にある北海道で最も歴史のある商店街の一つです。1873年（明治6年）頃に始まり、2026年現在で153年の歴史を誇ります。
総延長約900メートル、約200軒の店舗が軒を連ね、全蓋式アーケードで覆われています。雨や雪を気にせず買い物を楽しめるのが最大の魅力です。
名前の由来
「狸小路」の名前の由来には諸説あります。1891年の『札幌繁昌記』によると、言葉巧みに男を誘う女性たちをタヌキに見立てたことが名前の由来とされています。また、実際にタヌキが生息していたからという説もあります。
歴史
1869年の開拓使設置後に商家や飲食店が集まり始め、1873年頃には「狸小路」と呼ばれるようになりました。1916年にはシンボルの「鈴蘭灯」が設置され、1958年には初代アーケードが完成。現在のアーケードは1982年に完成した2代目です。
2002年には光ファイバー網と無線LANを導入し、全国でも先進的なIT商店街となりました。2023年には150周年記念式典が開催されました。
