Tokai Running Guide 2026–2027: Nagoya, Shizuoka, Gifu and Mie

Tokai’s running calendar ranges from Nagoya’s international women’s marathon and Shizuoka’s city-to-coast course to an Oi River path, an Ibi Gorge half and a point-to-point Matsusaka full. Month, fee and regional food are not enough to choose. This guide separates live entry, closed entry and next-edition information, then plans both sides of the finish line.

This snapshot is not inventory. A place is secured only after the required result, acceptance and payment confirmation.

Choose city, river, gorge or point-to-point

• Large international city operation: Nagoya, where women-only eligibility, the EXPO and prior-day bib pickup shape the trip.
• City toward coast: Shizuoka; Mount Fuji visibility and a uniformly flat course are never guaranteed.
• Long river path with seven hours: Shimada; no intermediate checkpoints, but competition ends at the limit.
• Mountain-valley half: Ibigawa; the full remains suspended in 2026.
• Winter point-to-point full: Matsusaka; separately plan its cultural-hall start and sports-park finish.

Tokai still varies in temperature, rain, wind, solar load, bridges, banks, turns and start loss. Use your results and every cutoff, not a generic “beginner-friendly” label.

Nagoya Women’s 2027: discard old Tiffany advice

The 14 March 2027 race starts at 09:10 and returns to Vantelin Dome Nagoya, with seven hours. General eligibility is female athletes aged 19 or older on race day. Overseas residents and English-language applicants share 3,500 first-come places across early and regular entry: the ¥24,000 early window ended 24 August; regular ¥25,000 runs 25 August–23 September, plus administration.

The advertised 96.6% finish rate is a 2026 result, not an individual guarantee. Dome start and finish do not protect the outdoor 42.195 km from weather.

Shizuoka Marathon: do not make Fuji or “flat” a condition

Shizuoka 2026 is over, so the old article’s ¥13,000 is not a current price. The organiser plans Shizuoka 2027 for 14 March and general entry from 20:00 JST on 2 October 2026. Confirm capacity, price, events, limits, overseas access and bib delivery in the new regulations.

The route’s cultural interest lies in changing from Tokugawa Ieyasu’s Sumpu cityscape through the Abe River toward Kuno and Suruga Bay. It is not a climb of Nihondaira, an all-day Fuji viewpoint or proof that every metre is flat. Cloud, rain and haze decide whether Fuji appears.

Shimada Oigawa 2026: seven hours even without intermediate cutoffs

On 25 October 2026 at 09:00, the course goes from Shimada City Hall through the historic river-crossing area and Oi River “Liberty” course to Shimada Athletics Stadium. The full has 6,000 places, costs ¥10,000, requires age 18+ excluding high-school students, and ends seven hours from the gun. There are no intermediate cutoff times, but racing stops when the limit expires.

A riverside profile can look gentle while wind, sunlight, monotony and post-turn fatigue create real load.

Ibigawa 2026: a half, not a full

At 09:30 on 8 November 2026, the JAAF-certified 21.0975 km half goes from Ibi Police Station through Ibi Gorge to the Soto-tsukumi turn and finishes at Ibigawa Town Hall. It has 5,000 places, costs ¥8,000, requires age 15+ excluding junior-high students and allows 2h45. Controls are 8.4 km at 10:45, 18 km at 12:05 and finish at 12:30.

Entrants chose one of a shirt, Ibi rice, a local product or no item with a ¥500 discount—not every item. Check 06:30–08:30 health reception, transport between start/finish and cold mountain rain in the participant guide.

Mie Matsusaka 2026: beef is not a universal gift

On 20 December 2026 at 09:00, the full goes from Kuragi Culture Hall to Matsusaka Sports Park. It has 10,000 places, seven hours, seven planned checkpoints and a ¥12,900 fee normally plus 6% handling. General entry closed 31 July. Marathon eligibility is 18+ excluding high-school students; racing wheelchairs are excluded and conditional guide runners are permitted.

Meat can sell out and varies in price, portion, allergens and religious/dietary suitability. It is neither guaranteed race nutrition nor a guaranteed meal.

Overseas entry: separate residence quotas and Japanese systems

1. Start from the current official edition and select overseas/English or Japan-resident eligibility correctly.
2. Do not treat first-come, lottery, challenge, travel-plan and hometown-tax places as equal-price doors.
3. Match passport/accepted-ID name and save every deadline in Japan time.
4. Check Japanese address, phone, RUNNET or other accounts and bib-shipping geography.
5. Save payment success, lottery result/payment deadline, fees and cancellation/refund terms.

Substitute running, transfer and proxy bib pickup are generally prohibited. An entry-and-hotel package can still have separate race and lodging cancellation rules.

Transport, lodging and safety are part of the race

Stay the prior night and work backwards from EXPO, identity or health-check hours. Nagoya’s major stations, the Tokaido Line for Shizuoka/Shimada, regional Ibigawa transport and point-to-point Matsusaka need different plans. Use edition-specific traffic controls because buses, taxis and shuttles change.

Gun limits include rear-block loss. For cold rain, wind, abnormal warmth, dehydration, chest pain, altered awareness or severe breathing difficulty, stop and alert medical staff. Japan’s emergency number is 119; first give a marshal your distance marker, bridge or aid-station location.

Regional specialties are context; the road is daily life

Sumpu’s Ieyasu history, the Oi River crossing system, Ibi Gorge and Matsusaka merchant/food culture are local history, not finisher props. Visit separately after checking opening, admission and photography/food rules.

Spectators should not block the course, private land, entrances or tactile paving; do not publish intrusive close-ups of distressed strangers, hand out unofficial food or discard waste outside official collection.
