Hokkaido Amusement Parks: Seasonal Guide to Rusutsu and Greenland

Last checked: October 27, 2026. Hokkaido’s outdoor ride parks are seasonal, not year-round alternatives to a ski trip. Rusutsu Resort’s amusement park ended its 2026 season on October 18, and Hokkaido Greenland in Iwamizawa announced the end of its season on October 25. If you are travelling now, do not set out for either park expecting rides. Check each operator’s next-season calendar before booking transport or accommodation.

Which park fits your next warm-season trip?

Rusutsu Resort: a destination day, not a quick Sapporo stop

Rusutsu combines an amusement park with other resort facilities. In 2026, the amusement park’s published operating period was April 29 to October 18, with some Monday closures. Its ticket page distinguished an amusement-park-only day ticket from a broader resort ticket. That distinction matters if your family also wants the gondola or a pool: do not assume every activity is included in the cheapest ticket. The official page also publishes age categories, online prices and parking charges; compare the exact date and ticket type before paying.

Rusutsu is better suited to a day deliberately built around the resort than to an improvised short detour. Check the official calendar and ticket conditions and the official Sapporo shuttle information together. In Hokkaido, a park’s operating date and a workable return journey are two separate checks.

Hokkaido Greenland: rides near Iwamizawa

Hokkaido Greenland is in Iwamizawa, not central Sapporo. The operator’s site announced that its 2026 amusement-park season ended on October 25. When it reopens, consult the live park notice and calendar before travelling. Its ticket page separates gate admission from an unlimited-ride pass, and also offers individual ride tickets. This makes the right purchase depend on how many rides your group expects to use; small children may need a paying accompanying adult on some attractions.

The park’s official access page gives driving and bus information and points rail travellers to JR Hokkaido timetables. If using public transport, verify the last return connection and any seasonal bus service rather than relying on an old travel-blog estimate. The Iwamizawa tourism association also lists the park as closed during winter.

Do not plan around these outdated listings

North Safari Sapporo closed on September 30, 2025. It should not appear in a current list of places to visit; the operator posted an official closure announcement. Sapporo Teine is a ski destination, not a substitute ride park in this comparison. Older lists that treat either as a currently open amusement park can mislead a family into a wasted journey.

A practical booking checklist

  • Check the season first: a park’s website may remain online after rides close for winter. Look for an actual operating date, not merely a ticket price.
  • Check what your ticket includes: gate entry, rides, gondolas, pools and parking may be priced separately.
  • Check ride status and age or height rules: wind, rain and maintenance can close individual attractions, and the same pass may have different value for different children.
  • Check the return trip: confirm the day’s transport timetable, especially if you will not drive.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit a Hokkaido amusement park in late October 2026?

Not either of the two ride parks compared here: Rusutsu’s 2026 season ended October 18 and Hokkaido Greenland’s ended October 25. Look for a winter-specific activity instead, and wait for a published next-season calendar before reserving a park day.

Is North Safari Sapporo still open?

No. Its operator announced a permanent closure effective September 30, 2025.

What if the weather changes?

Check the operator’s same-day ride notices before departure. Outdoor rides may be suspended even on a day when the park itself is scheduled to open.
